Obit

Sunday was a very very sad day for me. How can people be so heartless and they say they did it because she is causing them a lot of problems.. How? I ask. What did she do?

For those who are wondering what I am freting about - well my complex people cut down a young rain tree. I wrote about her last year. And now, when I was eagarly waiting for her first flower, these blasted people cut her down.. I could not do anything. I was a mere spectator as the wood cutter pluged his axe into her and cut right through her. She fell down with a great thud and that was the end of her. Leaves, until then green and gay were now drooping and dead.

Hmm.. I will miss her. Good Bye, Oh Tree! I will plant another one in your memory.

Hmm..Is there no apparent reason for cutting the tree??..One side, ppl are planting trees in Chennai and on the other side, such incidents happen!

Vidya,
I know how degrading it is when something dies before our eyes.
Well! Whenever something like this happens in future just keep this in mind.
"Never worry about things that die today, bcoz it is already tomorrow in Australia"
Manytimes this saying keeps me away from worries.

hmm.I can feel your pain. I had planted 5 plants last spring. And now 2 are alive. I did my best to protect them over the cold winter, though it was not all that bad this year.

Though the reasons why the plants died are different, I can understand the feeling !!

sorry abt ur tree ... but what is a rain tree?

Well, it is a always a sad thing to see something that is huge, beautiful and living killed and the life snuffed out of it. But there is a time and place for everything and everyone. Maybe this is how mankind evolves into extinction. When something depresses you, look at the silver lining behind this. With this tree gone there is reduced maintenance, lesser cost for people in the complex, huge trees are not usually good when they are too close to foundations of structures, the act of cutting down this tree and selling it might have fed a couple of families maybe for a couple of days.

Can commiserate... BIG time... There is nothing as heartening as seeing a young plant/tree take life. And to let it got must heart...

Reminds me of a Lonely Planet show I caught recently about a former lumbering co workman who fell in love with trees and lives atop one in the Redwood Forest...

Keep writing... Feels like a face-up walk in the rain to visit your place on a workday afternoon :)
